Dr Palanichamy Shunmugavel recalls his days at Thiagarajar College of Engineering with great fondness. It was his first time living away from home and the experience has played a vital role in shaping him into the person he is today. His favourite memory is of the three-day golden jubilee celebration, which was attended by over 50 former professors and proved to be an outstanding learning opportunity for young students. The college also allowed him to participate in various cultural activities, the NCC as well as work in the non-profit co-operative shop on campus as a student representative.
The standout quality of Thiagarajar College was the eminent faculty – many of whom possessed degrees from world-class universities in the US. The college impressed him with the opportunity it provided for first-generation college students who hailed from rural backgrounds. For those who were not fluent in English, the college provided ample resources to help them establish their careers.
Dr Shunmugavel earned a post-graduate degree at IIT Bombay and worked with Boeing, based out of the USA for many decades until his retirement.
